Additional Photos of the Chafer Beetle
by Seth Friedman

Paper Info: A 15-inch (38 cm) square of Origamido paper was used to make this model with a body, not including the legs, that measures 4 ½-inches long by 1 ½-inches wide (11 ½ by 3 ¾ cm).

Tips and Tricks: You will need to use strong, thin paper, such as Origamido paper or tissue foil, to make this model. Go to the online Subscribers’ Area to see additional photos of this Crease Pattern model. To see more of Seth’s work, go to www.flickr.com/photos/inqorigami/.

I designed this Chafer Beetle after one crawled onto my hand while I was sitting on a park bench. The actual size of a Chafer Beetle is small enough to sit on just one finger but to fold a life sized one would require a square smaller than six inches. So I recommend folding this insect from strong, thin paper, like Origamido, measuring between 10 and 15 inches. Once you accomplish the general collapse of the base, use the images for reference in final shaping. For practice, try using large foil paper. Good luck!
